Jessica Vyas
bhujapidasana
Jessica is a student and authorized teacher of the Ashtanga Yoga Method. She continues to train with lineage holder Paramaguru R. Sharath Jois at the Shri K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, Karnataka, India since 2016.
From early childhood, Jessica grew up taking annual trips to India to visit family and establish a connection with the Motherland. Yogic philosophies and practices were always peripherally accessible, engrained within the activities of daily living. These trips rooted in her a longing for the stories and traditions of her ancestors. At 7, she was introduced to seated meditation practice but it wasn’t until her early teens did she begin a practice that involved some asanas (postures). After college, grad school and years of taking local yoga (asana) classes, she was drawn to the Himalayas where she first learned Ashtanga Yoga. Jessica completed a 6 month teacher training course and apprenticeship on the banks of the Ganges River in Rishikesh, India in 2014. Since then, she studied and apprenticed with her mentor Priya Jhawar, director of Ashtanga Yoga Austin, and made several trips to Mysore, India to practice with Guruji R. Sharath Jois.
